Frankreich 1626. Der junge D’Artagnan aus der Gascogne möchte unbedingt Musketier werden und reitet nach Paris. Hier fällt es ihm schwer, zu akzeptieren, dass das Korps der Musketiere, die Leibwache Seiner Majestät König Louis’ XIII., durch den intriganten Kardinal Richelieu aufgelöst wurde. Im Gegenteil: er legt sich sogar mit drei der bekanntesten Musketiere – Aramis, Athos und Porthos – an, und fordert sie zu einem Duell heraus. Doch bevor es zu diesem Duell kommt, werden die vier von Soldaten des Kardinals überrascht – nach einem siegreichen Kampf müssen die vier erkennen, dass es besser ist, zusammenzuarbeiten, um den König vor dem Komplott Richelieus zu bewahren. Derweil plant dieser auch noch, die restlichen loyal zu Ludwig stehenden Musketiere zu ermorden.
